Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides assistance to employees at times when you face problems at work or in your personal or family life.

What is EAP?

An EAP is a commitment by your employer to support your emotional and psychological wellbeing. Under OH&S legislation, organisations are expected to manage psychological and emotional risks and hazards in the workplace.

The aim of the EAP is to offer external, professional, and confidential counselling assistance to people who may need help with particular problems affecting their well-being, both personally and in the workplace.

What are the benefits of an EAP?

We all face times in our lives when difficulties arise at work and home. Not all of these pressures will adversely affect our lives, but sometimes we find it hard to cope. Counselling assists individuals to resolve issues quickly and effectively and can assist with:

  • Increased performance & productivity

  • Reduced absenteeism, conflict & occupational stress

  • Improved staff morale, employee retention & recruitment

  • Reduced worker’s compensation & other costs

  • Improved employee satisfaction

  • Enhanced employer-employee relationships

With untreated mental health conditions resulting in over 6 million lost working days and 12 million days of reduced productivity every year in Australia, AWI Consulting can provide professional support to help workers experiencing mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression, to stay at or return to work, benefiting both the worker and the business.

Your employer may have engaged AWI Consulting to provide a workplace EAP so you can access confidential and professional assistance.

Who can use the service?

Check with your employer first to see if you’re eligible (or give us a call and we’ll let you know). EAP isn’t a lifelong counselling service. It is a brief solution focussed intervention that can get you back on your feet.

Some employers will offer free EAP services to direct full and part-time employees for 3-6 sessions a year. Other employers may allow EAP services to extend to full, part-time, contractors and casual staff as well as their immediate family members from 6-12 sessions a year.

Depending on your employer’s coverage and number of sessions allocated, you may be able to request further sessions from the your manager or human resources team.

Our Obligations:

AWI Consulting is committed to safeguarding the privacy of client information and has implemented measures to comply with our obligations under the Privacy Act 2002. If you’re a bit miffed about who might get access to your info at work, ask your clinician and we’ll give you the low down (the short story is no-one, see our info on confidentiality here and ask your clinician if you’ve got any worries).
